Stryker Completes Phase Two of Small Bone Innovations Acquisition

SBI's French, German and Asia Pacific operations are now under Stryker's belt.

Stryker Corp. has completed the acquisition of the French, German and Asia Pacific operations of Small Bone Innovations (SBI), a Morrisville, Pa.-based maker of orthopedic technology for small bones and joints. Earlier this year, the companies announced Stryker would takeover SBI in totality in a deal that would cost $285 million after tax benefits. In August, the purchase of SBI’s North American assets was completed. At the end of September, the international markets followed suit.

“With its global sales, marketing and distribution resources, Stryker is well positioned to take SBI’s full range of arthroplasty products to a much greater patient population, and, in particular, the STAR total ankle replacement system,” said Anthony G. Viscogliosi, chairman and CEO of SBI. “We believe the ankle market is at an inflection point of conversion from fusion to arthroplasty.”

SBI’s STAR ankle is approved for uncemented use through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Stryker has not yet made a statement regarding the recent activity in this deal.
